Wojtek Kostrzewa estudou design, pintura e arte multimídia na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Varsóvia, Polônia e na Faculdade das Artes de Berlim, Alemanha. Vive e trabalha em São Paulo, Brasil.
A prática artística de Kostrzewa abrange a vida pública da rua e a vida privada do ateliê. Sua pintura se desenvolve entre estes dois meios. Relevos urbanos são colecionados através da técnica frottage e projetados em telas cromáticas, frutos da junção da tinta óleo aos sprays. Também no emprego dos materiais Kostrzewa une estes dois espectros percebidos como antagônicos. Sua pintura frequentemente ressignifica a imagem digital presente nas mídias sociais ao trazê-la ao meio material da tela e questiona o valor e influência das imagens cotidianas no imaginário compartilhado. Inversamente, também reconstitui com sua pintura paisagens internas. O viés conceitual e limítrofe no qual sua obra acontece também se apresenta em suas esculturas onde segmentos de objetos cotidianos são convertidos em símbolos que vencem o tempo pela corporalidade do bronze.
Seus trabalhos participaram de diversas instituições como na Propaganda Gallery Varsóvia, Pivô Arte e Pesquisa São Paulo, Galeria Raster Warsaw, Benaki Museu Atenas, Galeria Salon Akademii Varsóvia, entre outros. Ele é cofundador do Coletivo Zbiorowy.
/ Wojtek Kostrzewa studied design, painting, and multimedia art at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts in Poland and the Berlin School of Arts in Germany. He lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.
Kostrzewa's artistic practice encompasses the public life of the street and the private life of the studio. His paintings develop between these two mediums. Urban reliefs are collected through frottage and projected onto chromatic canvases, resulting from the combination of oil paint and spray paint. Kostrzewa also unites these two seemingly antagonistic spectra in his use of materials. His painting frequently reinterprets the digital image present in social media by bringing it to the material medium of the canvas and questions the value and influence of everyday images in the shared imagination. Conversely, he also reconstructs internal landscapes with his painting. The conceptual and boundary-pushing bias in which his work takes place is also present in his sculptures, where segments of everyday objects are converted into symbols that transcend time through the corporeality of bronze.
His works have been part in various exhibits such as at the Propaganda Gallery Warsaw, Pivô Arte e Pesquisa São Paulo, Raster Warsaw Gallery, Benaki Museum Athens, Salon Akademii Warsaw Gallery, among others. He is a co-founder of the Zbiorowy Collective.
