Alvaro Seixas É artista e professor de Desenho da Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro [UFRJ]. Doutor em Linguagens Visuais pela mesma universidade. Em seu trabalho, o artista explora o desenho e a figuração pela apropriação de figuras presentes na cultura pop. O humor ácido é a principal característica de sua produção, que faz críticas ao sistema de arte e seus mecanismos hierárquicos de poder e status. O artista também desenvolve trabalhos que exploram a abstração na pintura e como essa linguagem se relaciona com o panorama artístico-cultural atual. Possui obras nos acervos do Museu de Arte do Rio [MAR], do Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro, e na The Alex Katz Foundation, Nova York. Dentre suas exposições recentes se destacam a individual L'Enseigne, na Danielian, Rio de Janeiro [2025] e The Artworld will never end, no Espaço C.A.M.A, São Paulo [2021]; e as coletivas A quarta Geração Construtiva, na Galeria FGV Arte, Rio de Janeiro [2023], com curadoria de Paulo Herkenhoff; e Desvairar 22, no Sesc Pinheiros, São Paulo [2022]. Em 2015, participou da X Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre, e da exposição 5º Prêmio CNI SESI SENAI Marcantonio Vilaça, no MAC USP. Em 2026 será publicado pela Editora Barléu um livro dedicado aos mais de 20 anos de trajetória do artista.
/ Alvaro Seixas is an artist and Drawing professor at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro [UFRJ]. He holds a PhD in Visual Languages from the same institution. In his work, the artist explores drawing and figuration through the appropriation of images drawn from pop culture. His production is marked by a sharp, acidic humor that critiques the art system and its hierarchical mechanisms of power and status. The artist also develops works that investigate abstraction in painting and how this visual language relates to the current artistic and cultural landscape. His works are part of the collections of the Museu de Arte do Rio [MAR], the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro, and The Alex Katz Foundation in New York.
Recent exhibitions include the solo show L’Enseigne at Danielian, Rio de Janeiro [2025], and The Artworld will never end at Espaço C.A.M.A, São Paulo [2021]; as well as the group exhibitions A quarta Geração Construtiva at Galeria FGV Arte, Rio de Janeiro [2023], curated by Paulo Herkenhoff; and Desvairar 22 at Sesc Pinheiros, São Paulo [2022]. In 2015, the artist participated in the 10th Mercosul Biennial in Porto Alegre and in the exhibition 5º Prêmio CNI SESI SENAI Marcantonio Vilaça at MAC USP. In 2026, a book dedicated to more than 20 years of Alvaro Seixas’s trajectory will be published by Barléu.
